Pilot Programme
Pilot for SAM Residencies
SAM has launched a by-invite only pilot in December 2020, with three local residency places across the Community & Education Residency and the Curatorial & Research Residency.
Taking place from January to March 2021, these residencies will host participants based in Singapore only, and will be conducted both digitally and physically. Read more about the pilot batch of residents below.
Chu Hao Pei (b. 1990) is a visual artist who works primarily with installation and lens-based media to explore the complex shifts and interconnections between culture and the environment. Conversations are core to his research interests and method, and his works interweave engagement, documentation and research. While in residence, Hao Pei will be investigating seed sovereignty and agriculture amnesia as shaped by political, economic and social factors.

Salty Xi Jie NG
Salty Xi Jie NG (b. 1987) is a multidisciplinary artist who plays with the aesthetics of social relations and structures. Her research interests lie in performance, aging, intimacy, food, lineage, identity, ritual and power. These manifest in presentations where art and life intersect. While in residence, Xi Jie will be thinking about rituals as individual and collective means to reflect on mortality, remembering and grieving.

Johann YAMIN
Johann YAMIN (b. 1994) works across video, the Internet, and installation. He also engages in the curatorial, acts of support, and writing. His research interests include new media technology, optics, affect, cinema, video games and media histories. While in residence, Johann will be focusing on the history of eSports and its ecosystem(s) from the vantage of Southeast Asia as a way to consider nationalism, capitalist logics and queer games communities.
