Artist Residency || 01 Apr to 30 Sep 2024
Naomi SEGAL pays attention to vulnerable and interdependent forms of making, reading and being with one another – materialised and embodied through zines, comics, installations and queer reading groups. Naomi joyfully holds a co-director position at the artist-run initiative Pari, based on Dharug land in Western Sydney.
While in residence, Naomi will examine what it means to read in the contemporary context and explore queer, collaborative and trauma-informed reading practices. Taking the form of a syllabi complemented by off-beat workshops, she intends to query: How can we explore textual encounters as transformative and life-sustaining, while also being gentle towards the way that focus has been fragmented by trauma, labour, and a buzzing attention economy? How can we read in ways that permit failure and non-mastery?
